How many pepper mills have you owned?? We have probably had at least 8-10 over the years. Some we bought, some were gifts, all of them broke. This one stands alone, I bought this at the farmers market (Harry.s) here in Atlanta about 15 years ago. I thought it was expensive and at that time had only gone through a few of them. It has never stopped working, I have had to clean the grinding wheel twice over the years, mainly because I purchase my own pepper mixture at the farmers market and occasionally can get some slightly “green” peppercorns and that will clog it up. The only downside is it is solid brass and 10″ high. It tends to get knocked over once and awhile when cooking and you may get tired of looking at it. Just take some Brasso, clean it up and your old friend is looking good as new!!!

The canister looks good, and it actually is airtight, Its just as many people have mentioned the rubber grip inside the lid doesn’t stay. This is NOT A BIG DEAL!! Bottom line, you get what you pay for, the item is fairly inexpensive, as canisters (especially stainless steal ones) can be quite costly. I purchased these for the use of coffee storage. I order fresh roasted whole bean coffee from [...], and its imperative that I have the unused portion stored in airtight canisters, away from light & moisture. So these are not display pieces for me. And I recommend them if you need something for a similar purpose but aren’t looking to spend a lot of money due to the economy. The rubber thing is very minor, I’m not spoiled so the options are to glue it in place or just adjust it every time I open and close the canister…it’s really not THAT bad. My coffee’s holding up nicely!!

I own this grinder (Mr. Coffee IDS76) for over 1 year and have been using it every day. We have owned many kinds of coffee grinders and mills in the past two decades, even including a hand-cranked unit. After balancing quality of coffee ground and maintenance requirement, we have come back to the grinder side over the coffee mills. This coffee grinder is a good balance, easy to operate, take the guessing out of the grinding, spinning side scraping mechanism to loosen all the coffee ground, washable cup, good-looking design, and durable. Compared to all other units I have owned, this one provides the best value. If you are like me who like to have a freshly ground cup of coffee without much fuss, this grinder is a very good option.

After I ordered this, I found another of an almost identical design (but with somewhat fewer and slightly shorter bristles–made by a different manufacturer) at a local cookware store for the same price (but of course no shipping charge–just sales tax). So with the cost of shipping the price of this brush is perhaps a bit high.
I use this to clear out the leftover coffee grounds/powder in my Krups coffee bean grinder without having to move the blades around (to get loose the coffee stuck underneath them). It seems to work well for that purpose, and I just flick the bristle tips with my finger to clean the brush.

This product has worked well for me for over 3 years. One downside: it produces a fine dust which gets stuck to the inside of the grinds compartment. This wad of coffee dust needs to be avoided when dumping the grinds into your pot or maker, otherwise you’ll over-extract your coffee, clog your filter or add sludge.
For the money, I can’t complain, and it’s at least better than a blade grinder.

I bought my Pavoni in Florence, Italy (for [...] US dollars) about ten years ago, so I thought I could finally give this machine a fair review. I have been making coffee for my wife and myself every single morning and many evenings with it since, and while it does need new gaskets and a few small parts every now and again (which I do myself / it’s really not that hard), I don’t think that any other espresso machine would have lasted this long (I figure I have pulled over 10,000 shots)…and it still looks like new and is making better coffee than ever. It took me about 2 months to figure the best way to pull a shot and get the foam just right, but once I had that all figured out I knew that I would love the experience of pulling a great espresso each and every morning. This is not for the low maintenance type of person, but if you enjoy the process of making something as much as you do the final product, then this machine is for you. And you will be able to pass it on to your kids and their kids too. A really great buy!!

Over a period of five years, I perfected my espresso shots using a La Pavoni conical burr grinder and a La Pavoni lever espresso machine. Went all the way around the bases by buying a coffee roaster and perfecting the blend and roast.
Then the bearings on my old La Pavoni burr grinder burned out. I replaced it with an Capresso grinder that got great reviews.
Big mistake. Tried using the Capresso for several months, and knew I wasn’t where I needed to be when my barista son was here for a visit earlier this summer. All I had to see was the look on his face when I served him a shot with large, white bubbles instead of thich, rust-red crema. The shot was over-extracted and bitter.
So I got a Rancillio Rocky, and I CELEBRATE it every morning when the shots I spent five years learning to pull are reappearing in my cup.
This thing, as others have noted, is built like a tank. It’s very quiet. It took me all of four shots to dial in the perfect grind for an everage day, and it’s a snap to go one click or one click down if the weather gets drier or more humid.
You can feel the quality of the grind in the lever on the La Pavoni. Pulling a good shot is more about what you feel in your arm and what you see and hear going into the cup than anything else. This machine makes getting exactly the right texture a snap.
Given its industrial appearance, if your kitchen is more about having great looking appliances on display on your counters than it is about using them, this grinder’s not for you. But if your morning revolves around perfect blend, perfect roast, perfect grind, perfect pull, perfect shot – this is the grinder to toss into your workflow.
